Our Inspiration

For a long while, we struggled to attract girls to fields in science, math, engineering, and technology that - for various reasons - have not been accessible or glamorous for girls to engage in.

But for years, an effective way to overcome those challenges was right in front of us - literally. Our offices are located right on the coast of Flagler Beach. On a typical sunny day, we see young surfers, many of them young girls - getting ready to hit the surf with their boards. Then it came to us: why not combine something girls love, with something they'd like to learn more about?

That led to the creation of our "Surf & Science Camp". Sponsored by NASA & the Kennedy Space Center Education office, the camp features a week of a 20 hour curriculum, with 25 girls attending each week over a two week span, serving a total of 50 girls. These are fun-filled weeks combining surfing and science. These young girls get hands-on training in these crucial areas while enjoying something they are passionate about!
